7 steps to take you from ARGH!! to AHHH!!

Three reasons why your technical knowledge isn’t enough AND how to earn more money, be more likable and be happier too.

85% of your financial success is down to your EQ, MQ & BQ, only 15% can be attributed to IQ.

As a freelancer, you are the biggest influencer in your business and you are what people are buying into. Your biggest asset in business, and in life is YOU; so investing in YOU is the best place to get the greatest ROI.

Your success or failure is down to your ability to relate to others.

Research carried out by the Carnegie Institute of Technology shows that 85% of your financial success is down to skills in “human engineering,” your personality and ability to communicate, negotiate, and lead. Shockingly, only 15% is due to technical knowledge.

On top of this, Nobel Prize winning psychologist, Daniel Kahneman, found that people would rather do business with a person they like and trust rather than someone they don’t, even if the likeable person is offering a lower quality product or service at a higher price. With this in mind, making an investment in strengthening your

1. EQ (Emotional Intelligence)
2. MQ (Moral Intelligence), and
3. BQ (Body Intelligence

is the logical thing to do.

However, if you are reading this and thinking “Ebonie, I just don’t have time for this sorta thing.” That really is okay – where and how you currently operate isn’t so bad. It’s got you this far right? Occasional burn out, overwhelm, apathy, loneliness, and resentment might just be a part of life……

OR

Perhaps you can see the benefits in doing some work on you.  Perhaps you are interested in discovering a calm, contented, three-dimensional life in which your career is fulfilling AND rewarding. Where you are proud of what you see in the mirror, and where there is time work, rest and play as you wish.

In that case, these are my 7 steps from ARGH to AHHH:

  1. Become aware.
  2. Work out what you aspire to.
  3. Learn to use your judgement and accept what you have the power to change.
  4. Take some action.
  5. Get accountable for yourself.
  6. Take time out to acknowledge the progress you are making and the feedback you are receiving.
  7. Find a way to appreciate yourself and those around you.

Doing these things will increase your EQ, MQ and BQ and is achievable for EVERYONE.

So what are EQ, MQ and BQ really?

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the most well known of the three and, in brief, it is about: being aware of your own feelings and those of others, regulating these feelings in yourself and others, using emotions that are appropriate to the situation, self-motivation, and building relationships.

My Top Tip for developing your EQ: First, become aware of your inner dialogue. It helps to keep a journal of what thoughts fill your mind during the day. Stress can be a huge killer of emotional intelligence, so find healthy coping techniques that can effectively and quickly reduce stress in a volatile situation.

Moral Intelligence (MQ) directly follows EQ as it deals with your integrity, responsibility, sympathy, and forgiveness. The way you treat yourself is the way other people will treat you. Keeping commitments, maintaining your integrity, and being honest are crucial to moral intelligence.

My Top Tip for developing your MQ: Make fewer excuses and take responsibility for your actions. Avoid little white lies. Show sympathy and communicate respect to others. Practice acceptance and show tolerance of other people’s shortcomings. Remember that forgiveness is not just about how we relate to others; it’s also how you relate to and feel about yourself.

Body Intelligence (BQ) reflects what you know about your body, how you feel about it, and take care of it. Your body is constantly telling you things; are you listening to the signals or ignoring them? Are you eating energy-giving or energy-draining foods on a daily basis? Are you getting enough rest? Do you exercise and take care of your body? It may seem like these matters are unrelated to business performance, but your body intelligence absolutely affects your work because it largely determines your feelings, thoughts, self-confidence, state of mind, and energy levels.

My Top Tip For developing your BQ: At least once a day, listen to the messages your body is sending you about your health. Actively monitor these signals instead of flying on autopilot. Good nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest are all key aspects of having a high BQ. Monitoring your weight, practising moderation with alcohol, and making sure you have down time can dramatically benefit the functioning of your brain and the way you perform and feel.

Not only will increased EQ, MQ and BQ boost your financial rewards but it will also make you happier, more motivated, and more likeable – not just to others, but to yourself too!
