I’m sure we have all been inspired by the amazing feats of the Olympic athletes. Their courage, determination and sheer hard grit have been admirable.
One of the last medals to be won was in the women’s modern pentathlon at the weekend. The silver went to a young member of Team GB who I heard interviewed on the radio. She said she had been still at school at the last Olympics in Beijing and, at the time, was just starting out in the modern pentathlon.
She said: “I’m just a normal girl. If I can win a medal, anyone can. I believe it’s possible to achieve whatever it is you’ve set your mind on.”
Fantastic words to inspire the next generation of athletes. And also excellent words of advice to all of us.
Essentially, if we want something badly enough, we will succeed. But, like winning an Olympic medal, it doesn’t come easy.
- You have to plan out in great detail each step you have to take in order to reach your goal.
- Then you have to work out when each step needs to be done.
- Next, you have to complete all those tasks.
Setbacks will happen along the way but that’s OK. Just make sure you get back on track as soon as you can.
My big goal is to design a range of fabrics and cushion covers and license my designs to retailers. It’s not going to happen overnight as I have to fit this around my day job. But I have mapped out exactly what I need to do, by when. Slowly but surely, I am making little baby steps towards achieving my goal.
